the basics : intro

i think that those who know me well could say that i lend myself to a bit of anxiety. i don't like it, i try to keep it reigned in but i tend to be a touch impatient and there is something in me that says, 'you're don't have much time, you need to accomplish/have this now!'

and so right now in my life this tendency of mine is all focused on wanting, even sometimes thinking i NEED a home. a home of jeremy's and mine to do with what i please. a home for me to start a small garden, to raise some chickens, to decorate, to have people over.

but i know that now is not the time for all of that. i've come to terms with that after several crying sessions in the shower or over the sink while doing dishes.

i think the Holy Spirit is so great 'cuz He always helps me to find something to look forward to, something besides all that i don't have, to focus on.

for me right now it's food. not just eating it (you know how much i like that) or even just cooking it. but most importantly how to prepare it to get the most nutrients out of the most basic ingredients i can find.

so this has inspired me to post, over several entries, very basic but very important homemade strategies for cooking more cost-effective meals while dramatically improving their nutritional density. if you desire to take some of these ideas & apply them, you will have to get your hands dirty and actually cook something (avoiding the microwave as much as possible). but no worries, it's much easier than you think.

here's to going back to the basics, saving some money and learning a few things that you can get really good at in order to feed your family well on a regular basis.
